Interpretation of the Tree card in Lenormand has grown significantly (get the reference?) and stemmed away from the original meaning of the card. As always, we take a look at what the card means in the original instructions to delve deeper into the Tree card.
Falling far from the Person Card this is an omen of good health, you can see the brightest future when many trees fall around on different cards. (Note: In the Lenormand Cards that were originally the Game of Hope there are Trees on Cards 7, 12, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22)
The initial statement that “Tree, falling far from the person card is an omen of good health” explains that the card, when near or presenting in a smaller spread, shows ill health. A core essence of, the closer, the worse off we are in health.
If we understand this core concept we can look at the Tree as a card that drains the health of those around it. Pulling all the juicy health goodness out of the querent’s situation. Think of a tree in the ground, while it flourishes and sucks the nutrients out of the soil, the plants underneath struggle to strive. Only plants who are hardy and need little sunlight and less minerals than their counterparts.
The tree card works in the same way, it removes the strength of the cards around, looking after its own growth first and foremost. Casting shade upon the situation.
The second part of the Tree explanation states “you can see the brightest future when many trees fall around on different cards. (Note: In the Lenormand Cards that were originally the Game of Hope there are Trees on Cards 7, 12, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22)”. Showing that far from the Person Card and in attendance with the following cards, we can expect Tree to shade the issues they bring within i.e. keep us safe!

If you have problems with the Tree Card and applying modern meanings, take a “does this make sense to me?” attitude … can you see where the author or teacher has pulled this information from (in conjunction with the original meaning of “ill-health when near”) and if so, run with it … if not, don’t put a lipstick on the pig, keep your own understanding of the meaning and don't get confused using that of others!
