Whispers from the Cards: My Gypsy Deck Journey
By Jasna Clara
My first encounter with Gypsy cards happened completely by accident - or at least that’s what I thought back then. I had already been working with Lenormand and oracle decks for years, but something about these simple, yet striking cards pulled me in. Gypsy cards have a raw, direct energy. They don’t sugarcoat their messages. They speak the language of life itself: love, sorrow, money, luck, betrayal, hope.

Under the guidance of the incredible Toni Savory, I completed my training and officially became an endorsed Gypsy Cards reader with the World Divination Association.
A Deck with a Voice of Its Own
What fascinated me the most was how quickly these cards began to weave stories in front of my eyes. It was never just a card-by-card interpretation. Instead, they connected into living narratives, like a fortune-teller whispering secrets from a smoky corner of a fairground tent.
Each reading felt like peeking through a keyhole into someone’s life - sometimes my own, sometimes others’. And unlike Tarot, where you can rely on structured systems like elements or numerology, with Gypsy cards I had to trust my gut. There were no rules carved in stone. Only my intuition guiding me through.

Lessons They Taught Me
Working with Gypsy cards taught me one of the most important lessons as a reader: life is not always wrapped in metaphor. Sometimes, a message is as blunt as "Misfortune" or "Letter" or "Loss." And that’s okay. These cards don't hide from reality,
they embrace it.
Their straightforward symbols - a "Thief", a "Widow", a "Journey" - make them perfect for practical readings about everyday life. Love affairs, money trouble, family drama -they thrive on human stories.
They also taught me about cultural symbolism, especially the old European superstitions and archetypes rooted in these images. It felt like connecting to something ancient, something carried through generations of fortune-tellers, grandmothers, and wise women who read these very same symbols by candlelight.
More than Divination
What started as a curiosity turned into a deep, personal dialogue. Gypsy cards became a mirror for my emotions, a confidant during uncertain times, and sometimes even a mischievous friend who teased me when I didn’t want to hear the truth.
To this day, they remain one of my most trusted decks. Not because they are the most beautiful or the most mystical, but because they are honest - sometimes brutally so, but always with purpose.

My Advice for Beginners
If you’re thinking of working with Gypsy cards, here’s my advice:
👉 Forget perfection. These cards thrive on raw, unfiltered intuition.
👉 Let them speak. Don’t overanalyze. They will tell you what you need to hear.
👉 Trust the old ways. They carry the wisdom of folk traditions, so approach them with respect.
